Morgan County Jail Employees Get New Contract
08/10/2012
MORGAN COUNTY, IL — Morgan County correctional officers, dispatchers, secretaries, bailiffs and other employees finally have a new contract.

Morgan County Commissioners signed off on an agreement between the Morgan County Sheriff's Office and Illinois FOP Labor Council for Corrections Officers and Related Employees.

Morgan County Sheriff Randy Duvendack says the three-year contract will include a three-percent raise retroactive to September 1st, 2011. The second year of the contract will comprise of a 1.75 percent raise based on the Consumer Price Index. Other county employees are receiving the same salary increase.

Duvendack says it's a fair contract.

"Times are tough so the raises may end up less than they have in the past based on the Consumer Price Index," says Duvendack. "In these times it's probably fair."

It took nearly a full year to negotiate the contract. Field representative for Illinois FOP Labor Council Jerry Lieb explains why it took so long.

"I think there was three different unions being negotiated," says Lieb. "Three different field representatives. From our perspective, I think they were probably trying to deal with the deputies first. That caused a delay before they finalize with us."

Last month, an employment agreement was approved between the sheriff's department and FOP Lodge 124 representing Morgan County merit deputies.
